Oats Daddojanam ~ Spiced Curd Oats
I use oats almost every day as hot cereal in my breakfast or oat bran in Wholegrain Roti , but using oats in Indian recipes is not common at my home. So, Yesterday I wanted to include this whole grain in Saddula Bathukamma prasadam and tried simple recipe with rolled oats, low fat yogurt and seasoned with Indian spices. Next time I will try more Indian tiffins with oats.
Ingredients:
- Rolled oats – 1/3 Cup
- Low fat Yogurt – 1/2 Cup
- Low fat Milk – 1/3 Cup ( Depend upon your need)
- Salt – 2/3 tsp ( to taste)
- Water – 1 Cup
Seasoning:
- Dry red chilli – 1
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Urad dal- 1 tsp
- Curry leaves- 5
- Coriander leaves chopped – 2 Tbsp
- Oil- 1/2 tsp
Method:
- Cook oats with salt in 1 cup of water, either in stove top or microwave until oats absorbs all water and are completely cooked.
- Let oats cool down to room temperature.
- When oats reach room temperature add yogurt and mix well.
- Add milk little by little for your desired consistency.
- Add finely chopped coriander leaves. Adjust salt to taste.
- Heat oil in a small non stick pan on medium high. When the oil is hot add dry red chilli, mustard seeds and Urad dal. When the Urad dal turns light brown in color , add curry leaves immediately and switch off stove.
- Add the above seasoning (popu) to oats and mix well
- Ready to serve.
