Chocolate Peda

Chocolate Peda diyas

Happy Diwali readers. I am back with festive recipes for Diwali after a long break. The very first microwave sweet dish I learnt when I came to US is milk peda using condensed milk and milk powder which is pretty simple with 3 main ingredients. Recently when I made milk peda for Shirdi Sai Baba pooja, I got an idea that with the same recipe I can make Chocolate Peda just by adding chocolate powder and make kids crave for this dessert. So I tried this recipe for my Diwali pot luck which is an instant hit. Its pretty simple and quick sweet dish which can be made for poojas, parties, festivals or baby showers.

Ingredients:

  1. Milk Powder / Milk Mawa powder – 1 ¾ cups
  2. Sweetened Condensed Milk – 1 can (14oz)
  3. Unsalted Butter or Ghee – 1 tbsp
  4. Unsweetened Cocoa powder – 3 tbsp ( I used Hershey’s dark c0coa powder,  you can use choco chips too)
  5. Almonds or Cashews – to garnish

Edible diyas.

Method:

  1. In a microwave safe dish, melt the butter or ghee.
  2. Add in the milk powder, cocoa powder and condensed milk and mix well.
  3. Cook in the microwave for 3 minutes, stirring very well after every minute.
  4. After the 3 minutes, mix well again and leave aside for the mixture to cool down enough to handle with bare hands.
  5. Once the mixture has cooled down,  make balls or any desired shape. Since I am making these for Diwali, I made them in diya shape this time.
  6. Decorate them with  almonds or cashews.
  7. Let the pedas set and cool down.

Notes:

  • If the mixture is too hard when you are making shapes, kneed them between your palms to make soft.
  • If the mixture is too gooey, microwave for another minute.
